Mum who ‘drowned son, 7, in bath after strangling him didn’t work’ denies murder

A mother has admitted killing her seven-year-old son by drowning him in the bath – but denies murder.

Christina Acres, 37, drowned George Acres, after she attempted to strangle him, Basildon Crown Court heard.

The jury heard Acres has admitted killing George at a family home in Rochford, Essex, on July 23 last year, but claims she did not murder him by reason of insanity.

George Acres was found unconscious at his home in Rochford on July 23 last year, and died later in hospital.

The trial continues.
