Mum left the body of her baby son in a hotel freezer because of smell’

Amanda Oakes who left the baby in a freezer because it ‘smelled so bad’ wants to be back home with her family for Christmas.

The 36 year old has been charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of abuse of a corpse after the remains of six-month-old Carlton James Oakes were discovered by police.

It is believed the baby was dead before being placed in the freezer  and he had been abandoned there for five to six days, according to officers.

Authorities at first were not able to locate Oakes and her partner Carlton James Mathis, 28, who is also the baby’s father.

When the couple were discovered in an apartment in Florida and as Mathis attempted to flee the scene police shot him four times and he was taken to hospital.

Oakes has not yet entered a plea to the charges and has to pay $400,000 if she wants to be released until she is due back in court again.
