Mother accused of cruelty against her own baby ‘not normal’, court hears

The mum stands accused of seriously injuring her then three-month-old baby boy, along with partner Erick Vanselow.

Her son was found to have suffered a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and broken ribs when he was rushed to hospital in September 2016.

Plymouth Crown Court was told the injuries could not have been caused accidentally.

The court had also previously heard how Wilkins had shown very little emotion when medics rushed to save her son’s life after he was taken to hospital.

A nurse warned that the procedure would be “distressing to watch”, she told the court: “Her reply was that she watched Holby and 24 Hours in A&E, which was a little bit of a strange thing to say.”

They both deny the charges.
