Ana Trescec, 39, says her sons’ bottoms were red raw and their sleepsuits were stained with urine and faeces.
But when she tried to speak to their nurse at the hospital, in the Croatian capital Zagreb, she was told the woman was having a cup of coffee.
When she finally managed to confront the nurse, she was told: “I can’t be expected to sit with them and change them every five minutes.”
The twins, Fran and Filip, had been admitted to a hospital for infectious diseases suffering from flu and rotavirus, a condition that causes diarrhoea and can develop into gastroenteritis.
The Croatian Ministry of Health announced it would be carrying out an inspection of the hospital after the horrifying photos appeared in local media.
