Rochdale child abuse inquiry: ‘Ex-Rochdale council leader lied to us’ says victims, may face police investigation

Former Rochdale council leader Richard Farnellis, is facing a possible police investigation after the official inquiry found that Fernellis had lied under oath about child sexual abuse reports.

‘The independent inquiry into child sexual abuse’ (IICSA) has told how Richard Farnell lied under oath about his knowledge of abuse in the town and that the discovery ‘defied belief’.

The report published by the IICSA also blasts the decision of Margaret Thatcher to award a knighthood to the suspected Paedophile Cyril Smith calling it “remarkable” decision.  The report went on to say how the knighthood in 1988 displayed an ‘unwillingness of those at the highest level to believe the late politician’s alleged victims’.
