A teacher who fed live puppy to turtle in front of distraught pupils is cleared of cruelty

A teacher who fed a live puppy to a snapping turtle in front of his terrified students has been found not guilty of animal cruelty.

Robert Crosland, a science teacher at Preston Junior High School in the US state of Idaho, had been charged with animal cruelty.

The puppy had deformities and it would die soon anyway.

The jury found him not guilty of animal cruelty after Mr Crosland’s lawyer argued that “we don’t believe a crime was committed”.

In the wake of the scandal, campaigner Jill Parrish slammed Mr Crosland’s demonstration as “disgusting and sick”.

She added: “Allowing children to watch an innocent baby puppy scream because it is being fed to an animal. That is violence. That is not okay.”
