A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a 100-year-old widow who was robbed on her way to church.

Zofija Kaczan suffered a broken neck and numerous other injuries when she was robbed of her handbag in the street.

The Polish-born centenarian, who celebrated her milestone birthday last month, had survived Nazi capture during World War Two.

She was walking to church when she was, knocked over and mugged near St Chads Road and Empress Road in Normanton, Derby, just before 9am on May 28.
