The police have sealed off a section of the Dockside outlet in Chatham, Kent, after a woman had her throat slit by a crazed knifeman in the shopping centre’s car park.
The man, thought to be the woman’s partner, is believed to have shut her in his car before the shocking attack at around 11am on Thursday morning.
A heroic bystander blocked the suspect’s car in so that he couldn’t escape before the police arrived. Covered in blood in a white t-shirt, he was arrested in front of a crowd that had gathered to watch the events unfold.
Police and paramedics reacted quickly on the fear that another terrorist attack could be in motion, but this proved to be false.
Manager of the Dockside Outlet Centre, Anthony Sutton, said “The man is in custody and we are liaising with and assisting the police to minimise disruption”.
The police have said that they have no reason to believe that there is any further threat to the public and they remain at the scene carrying out enquiries.
The woman was injured but her condition is as yet unknown.
