Paedophile escapes prison sentence due to a “bad back”

A paedophile has avoided jail because of a bad back.

60 year old, John Chappell, abused 3 girls over 40 years ago.

Chappell admitted to assaulting them in the 70s.

He indecently touched the girls, who were under 14, and asked them perform sex acts.

However, after the judge said that his back would give him “considerable discomfort” in prison, he was given a suspended sentence.

The judge said, “This would cause you considerable discomfort in prison.

The sentence is designed to punish you and is not an exercise in revenge, much as that might be the wish of those who suffered at your hands.”

If the crimes had happened after 2003 his prison sentence would have been longer due to the law changing.
