A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl has died after being left alone in a car by her “drugged-up” mum.
Deanna Joseph, 39, New Jersey, was said to be high on drugs when she parked her car in her driveway and left her daughter strapped in a car seat.
The poor child is believed to have injured herself while she was left on her own for hours.
Joseph called the emergency services when she found her daughter unresponsive in the car, according to local reports.
The mum was charged with second-degree child endangerment and it is said a medical examiner will now have to determine the child’s cause of death.
She will face trial at the Superior court in Salem.
Salem County Prosecutor John T. Lenahan told reporters: “It appeared the child was confined in a car seat for an extended period of time while the mother was under the influence of drugs, and may have injured herself in the car seat.”
It isn’t the first time the parent has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.
In 2008, she was also accused of leaving her 11-year-old and two-year-old children alone at the family home while she went to get high on drugs in a car park.
At the time she was convicted of cruelty and child neglect and subsequently sentenced to five years probation.
On another occasion Joseph was arrested after she was found unconscious in her house while her baby son bathed in inches of water, she was sentenced to a year in jail.
If she is convicted, Joseph could face a 10-year prison sentence.
